Successful LMP3 media day for Ligier UK customers

The Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship launched their debut season yesterday (14 February) by joining the MSVR Media Day at Brands Hatch.

Three Ligier UK teams attended the day - Douglas Motorsport, Speedworks Motorsport and G-Cat Racing.

G-Cat Racing are the newest team to join the LMP3 racing scene and will run the Ligier JS P3 that Paul Bailey purchased at the beginning of the year. Paul will race alongside long-time teammate Andy Schulz in the ACO-approved British LMP3 series.

Speedworks Motorsport took the opportunity to announce their first LMP3 driver signing at the Media Day. 20-year-old Jack Butel, who is the youngest driver to enter the series, has joined the team for the 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. His teammate is yet to be confirmed.

Douglas Motorsport, who were one of the first UK teams to commit to a Ligier JS P3, were also present at the media day with their drivers Mike Newbould and Thomas Randle.

The MSVR Media Day was introduced by Jonathan Palmer, who announced that the winner of the 2017 F3 Cup will receive a test drive in a Ligier JS P3. The prize is intended as an incentive to encourage drivers to make the leap into the LMP3 formula.

The Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship will begin on 22-23 April at Donington Park.

Richard Dean:

“It was great to see three of the Ligier UK teams at the Media Day for the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. The championship is really coming together and is appealing to a wide range of drivers and teams. We have the new signing of Jack Butel with Speedworks, which is fantastic, alongside the GT racers switching to prototypes, like Paul Bailey. I can’t wait to see how the first race goes at Donington.”
