Sports Insure, Bute Motorsport and United Autosports launch Celebrity Car and Young Driver initiative

Sports Insure, Bute Motorsport and United Autosports have announced plans to run a Celebrity Car at the final round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship.

The celebrity car will be made up of a well-known face who will race alongside a young driver able to win the chance to enter the race. The celebrity will be chosen by series sponsor Joe Henderson, United Autosports Team Owner Richard Dean and Bute Motorsport’s Chris Haynes.

Young drivers can apply for the chance to get involved in the Sports Insure Celebrity Car Initiative by filling in an application form available here - Applications will close on Saturday 20th May at the second round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. The applicants will then be whittled down to six finalists, who can encourage people to vote for them via an online voting system. The winner will be announced at the penultimate round at Snetterton (12-13 August) and will receive a fully-backed drive in the final round of the 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship.

The Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship is the first ACO-supported prototype championship in Britain. The ACO are the organisers of the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours and introduced the LMP3 category in 2015. United Autosports are reigning European Le Mans Series LMP3 Champions and last weekend (14-15 April) won their debut race in the ELMS LMP2 class and continued their winning streak in LMP3 by scoring first and third place finishes at Silverstone.

Richard Dean, Ligier UK:

“The Sports Insure Celebrity Car Initiative is a great way to get young people involved in prototype racing. The LMP3 class is aimed at two distinct age ranges - the gentleman drivers and younger drivers who also want to break into prototype racing and this is a fantastic way to get young drivers on board for LMP3. We are close to confirming who the celebrity will be but the emphasis is on the opportunity this will give to a young driver. I’ve seen lots of great young drivers work their way through the ranks of GT racing so I’m hopeful this will open up the prospect of prototype racing to a new audience.”

Chris Haynes, Director, Bute Motorsport:

“The Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship is a unique proposition in UK motorsport. With the endorsement and backing of the ACO we have a superb platform from which to launch young driving talent. The championship is now part of a structured ladder to Le Mans and a professional driving career so this initiative is the perfect way to introduce young drivers to LMP3 racing. We are very excited to be launching this with our partners Henderson Insurance and United Autosports.”
