T-Sport to enter 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship with Ligier JS P3

Established Formula Three team, T-Sport has confirmed their intention to enter the 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship.

The team has acquired a Ligier JS P3 for their first foray into sports prototype racing, from UK agents to Onroak Automotive, Ligier UK. The team intend to enter the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup and are also looking at running a car in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

T-Sport is one of the most respected and successful UK-based Formula Three teams and has been competing in the FIA Formula Three European Championship and the British Formula Three Championship for many years. They have won several National Class titles in the British F3 Series and in 2007 won the National Class title with Formula One driver Sergio Perez. T-Sport has most recently raced in Macau, finishing fourth with Kenta Yamashita behind the wheel.

The first round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship will be held at Donington Park on 22-23 April. The weekend consists of a 60-minute practice session, two qualifying sessions and two one-hour races. The Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship is the first ACO-backed championship in the UK.

There will be a big announcement about the championship from United Autosports and series organisers, Bute Motorsport at the opening round at Donington Park.

Russell Eacott, Team Principal, T-Sport:

“I’m very pleased to have finally been able to get our hands on a Ligier JS P3. I’ve admired the car for a long time now and have been looking at entering the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship since the series was announced last year. The championship and racing prototypes is a new direction for us but we are excited to get going. We are talking with drivers now about doing both the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship and the Michelin Le Mans Cup, so the package is definitely starting to take shape.”

Richard Dean, Ligier UK:

“It’s great that T-Sport are making the move into prototype racing and entering the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. This championship is aimed at well-run, professional teams like T-Sport so to have them on the grid is fantastic. T-Sport are an established team and know what it takes to be successful so I’m sure they will have no difficulty finding drivers for this brand new British championship.”
